With an enormous 2.5” voice coil and a super-efficient cooling system, the VEX handles 200 watts of power with ease. We went with real carbon-fiber cone to handle high SPL systems without breakup, and achieved a 94dB sensitivity by combining a large diameter, high strength ferrite motor with a neodymium pole-cap magnet! The Sundown Audio E series coaxial / component speaker line was designed to present the absolute best value for our customers working on a budget. We started with custom tooled and vented stamped frames on each and every mid-range to ensure longevity, excellent voice coil cooling, and great looks. This is mated to a custom designed, very linear motor structure which drives the extremely smooth sounding poly cone. The front of each driver is finished with a well damped rubber surround and a rubber sealant ring around the tweeter stalk (for weather and dust resistance as well as the air-pump effect). The E series component utilizes a titanium dome tweeter for a more “sharp” sound than the SA series but not to an excessive level – the tweeter is well damped at the edge.

The SA coaxial speakers are based on the same cast frame series as the component, use the same cone material, and have a similar tweeter design. So most of what has been said about the sound of the SA component holds true for the coaxial. The coaxial features a built-in crossover capacitor for the tweeter & simply allows the mid to roll off naturally – this works well due to the extremely low break-up cone design.

The coaxial does lack some of the advanced voice coil venting techniques (as they are not possible to use with a coaxial) and uses a smaller diameter coil than the component so the power rating is lower – but the fantastic sound is all there.
